I’ve got a series of classes going with the local park district coming up. They are slightly shorter versions of my regular classes, plus a couple of extra classes doing unusual things with Zentangle imagery. The classes include supplies, so my students will just need to show up with fingers ready to go, just like my regular classes. Each week students will be expected to bring the materials from the previous weeks, the program builds on itself in using them. Click this link to see a printable version of the Recreation Guide with the class application in it: http://sangabrielcity.com/DocumentCenter/View/3937 The class is listed on page 16, the application is on the second to last page.
Week 1 will be the content of Zentangle 101, the basics of the method, how intricate artwork is a side-effect of mindful hyper-focus. I will demonstrate some uniquely Zentangle techniques, and the steps to creating your own unique Zentangle art, in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Week 2 has us creating more complex patterns using some extra parameters: Strings, which are a no pressure way to subdivide your artistic space, and practicing drawing and shading some more complex patterns.
Week 3 is all about grayscale and using grid-based patterns. We’ll draw on a black background, and explore creating depth this way as well as playing with the idea of “grid.”
Week 4 we’ll begin to explore using colors by drawing on a tan background with colored pens, and how to shade and contrast them for depth in various ways.
Week 5 has students building skills by using several colors of background with colored pens and pastels for shading and depth.
Week 6 will be spent using our previous skills in creating different 3-dimensional zentangle inspired art (ZIA!) pieces that are suitable for gift giving.
